Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute was founded in 1984 and started functioning from 1986. And this organization fully controlled by the government of Bangladesh. This institute headquarters located in Mymensingh. Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute present Director General is Yahia Mahmud. Yahia Mahmud manages this institute all kinds of the sector.
This institute has many researchers places in Bangladesh. For each different type of research, it has a different type of places. Like, Riverine Station (Chandpur), Freshwater Station (Mymensingh), Brackishwater Station (Khulna), and Marine Fisheries and Technological Station in Cox’s Bazar. Two smaller stations are for reservoir fisheries located in Rangamati and floodplain ecosystem located in Santahar.
